This morning we started out from the ski town of Le Mont Dore and immediately had to climb ourselves out! Today was the second hardest day on tour and I think we were all happy when we finished. It was nearly 1800 meters in total of which over 2/3 was completed before lunch.
Our guest writer from yesterday, after five consecutive days riding with the JackPack chose to do a Family Friday ride. We think its because he could no longer handle the fierce JP daily pace.
The country side is starting to change. The rolling hills and farmland is more rocky and mountainous now. We are starting to see bigger bumps in the distance which is striking fear in most of us. Mont Ventoux is just a few days away.
We had a typical French lunch which left some (Jill to be exact) wishing she had the chicken instead of the beef. But the afternoon was a treat with mostly 50 km of downhill with only 500 meters of climbing in between.
We ended in the beautiful country town of St Flour. The photo below shows the stunning views from our hotel just before sunset at 10PM.
