And we are off. What can we say it was a magnificent day. The weather was beautiful and we were all anxious to get underway. After a few formalities and meeting the “others” we set out to a leisurely pace. Peak Tours and the rest of our tour group are a lovely group of riders from all over the UK and USA.
Our first day proved to be a little more difficult than most of us expected. In the morning a beautifully bitumised railtrail in green and lush surroundings but after lunch some fairly serious but short climbs one in excess of 15%!
Andy, Biggles and Rob gave a couple of Poms in our group a good working over and set themselves as the ones not to be messed with for the rest of the tour. Where was Alan I hear you ask? As usual he was miles ahead blissfully riding on his own.
Highlights from the day include Greg getting lost (not all was lost because it gave us a much needed auditory rest) and Jim hit the bitumen after a tangle with a crack in the gutter of the road.
Overall, the scenery was magnificent. The farms were immaculate, the buildings and houses were beyond their years but still had the most beautiful charm. It was breathtaking…
Can’t wait for Day 2 tomorrow….
